According to Mike Stewart former BlackJack CEO, Shining Mountain was  a mountain man term for heaven. Based on a search on the net I have found that the term may actually have originated with the Ute Indians of Colorado. Apparently this is the English translation of a phrase they used to refer to the mountains which sustained their way of life. Mike also told me the knife itself is based on a mid-1800's era Sheffield style.  In fact there is one knife in particular that it was based on. At this time I do not have a picture of the original knife. Mike also told me that this model was a top notch seller and would have been a major part of the BlackJack line. There was one problem that the company had with these that I know of. The handles were actually made by an outside vendor. When the handles were delivered it was discovered that the holes  in the handle, (These were for the pins.), did not line up with those that were on the tang. The fix involved the use of a spacer which was inserted between the handle and the guard.

This next variation is one of two that exist. Please forgive me but as I do not own this knife it is the best picture I can come up with. This is one of two very special examples that were made in Sambar Stag.
