About The Site
This is a page that is really long over due. First I want to clear up a misconception that exists at least for some people. This site is not connected with the current BlackJack Knives company in any official way. The site does not have a catalog nor is it connected with a company that makes or markets knives. Though there are knives offered from time to time. If you would like information about the current company their site can be found at www.knifeware.com . I highly recommend checking out their site. The purpose and primary focus of this site is to supply information pertaining to the old BlackJack knives company to aid collectors. I will admit that at times the site does stray off into other areas. Though it is still related to cutlery. There are several people who contribute to the site and for the most part have chosen to remain anonymous. The site is actually owned and run by a single person which is me. My name is Tom Carey, and I can be contacted via email at blackjack@mchsi.com .
I will tell you a little bit about myself. I am employed in the printing industry, and have been for about 13 years. Currently I work as a Patent Binder Assistant. I started collecting cutlery in my early teens though my parents did not know it. I became interested in BlackJack Knives when a friend of mine brought a catalog from The Cutlery Shoppe into work one day. We actually had a chance to look at it while waiting on a press. This was in about 1994. We were both interested in the BlackJack knives we saw in that catalog and noticed that they were made in Effingham IL. Which just happens to be about a 2 to 3 hour drive from where we live. So we contacted the company and arranged to take a tour of the plant. While we were there we were told about the factory outlet store which was located in St. Elmo IL. So naturally we visited the store and proceeded to drop a few thousand dollars between the two of us at the store. Ahh to be young again. With money!
At the present time I am working on a couple of articles pertaining to BlackJack knives, which I hope will make it into print in the near future. Because of this updates to the site have been few and far between. However there are several updates lined up. Another project that a fellow collector is presently working on is an upgrade to the appearance of the site. Hopefully it will make the site easier to use. If you have any questions or comments you can contact me at the email shown above.
